A White Kitchen To Inspire

Are you one of those people who just loves open shelving in a kitchen? Although I understand the love, I'm not in that group, entirely anyway.

Although pretty and great for grabbing something quickly, open shelving drives me crazy. I love the look of "open" only with glass doors instead. You can show some texture and color of your dishes, etc., but you don't have the problem of dust. And for most people there is also the grease in the air from cooking meats.

As you can tell, I'm not in love with doing more cleaning than necessary.

Another great idea from the kitchen featured here is the closed storage above the cabinets. When the owner planned her kitchen, she had the architect include a very high ceiling for the kitchen. This presents the problem of how to treat the cabinets in such a way as to keep them in scale, but still usable.

Excellent solution here.

A few years ago I feel back in love with the simple beauty of whites and silvers, again. We do go through whims of loving colors and combinations of colors don't we? After going through a strong white phase several years ago, I really craved color, especially the colors of the French and Italian countryside. Too much white is still a bit stark for me, but I continue to long for more whites in my decorating.

This kitchen utilized more expensive nickle finishes, but of course you can achieve much the same beauty with chrome. I never thought I'd come back to loving chrome. But you just never know what you will find appealing as time goes by. Most interesting is that this kitchen was completed at least 7 years ago, and still looks quite undated.

If I were planning a house right now, I would love to have a kitchen window like this one below. Even a smaller version, in a smaller space would be wonderful.

I especially like the wall finish. Mine has been golden yellow for a number of years, and will be painted a parchment color. This aged finish is like done like the gold one I'm painting over. So I will most likely do something like it again.
Although this is a big budget kitchen for most of us, it has lots of simple ideas to make a kitchen simply beautiful as well as highly functional.

I had white kitchen cabinets for many years. For my busy, and I guess messy, family it was so much work. I was constantly cleaning coffee and juice stains, scrubbing off dirty paw (kid and adult ones) prints, and touching up the paint from all the wear and tear. When I did the faux bois wood paint treatment on my cabinets, it was wonderful not to have all every little thing show up and look grimy on them.

Somtimes I think about painting them white again. But not today.

Kitchen Makeover

photo via northern sun

My boyfriend and I are repainting the bathroom and kitchen. We finally got a new floor in the bathroom and we are waiting to get a new wood floor and counter tops for the kitchen -please land lord hurry! Right now the kitchen is just cream. It's kinda boring and plain. I moved into my boyfriend's place awhile back and have been trying to make it cute ever since. It looks so "bachelor". Ugh! Once I make it pretty, I'll post a photo of it.

I love a room that's bright and airy. I am thinking of light color for the walls, probably blue and painting the cabinets white. The below photos are my inspiration.

I love the splashes of bright color. So cheerful!

This kitchen is so roomy. I love that table. Way too big for my place.

Our kitchen is more like this size- tiny. Aren't those bar stools so stylish?

Ooh, I love the bright breakfast nook next to the bay window. What a great place to eat breakfast or drink some coffee.

I love the bright yellow wall.

I think the light blue color in the photo from my Barbie's Dream Home post here would be perfect! What do you think?

Kitchen Face lift

photo via Living etc

Although the above kitchen photo really appeals to me, my bf would NEVER go for that! Can you imagine how much his friends would make fun of him?! So when we decided to paint our kitchen, I knew are couldn't propose this feminine of a makeover. Luckily, he agreed to a really pretty light blue and white. I love it and probably would get sick of the pink anyway!

Wow, I didn't realize HOW long it takes to paint a room. We had to paint the ceiling and cabinets too. Well, we finally got around to painting it after buying the primer and paint back in February!!! It took us a full day and a half. But so worth it because it looks FABULOUS!

Many many months ago I blogged about my ideal kitchen here.

My original inspiration was my tea pot. Although we decided to go a little less turquoise and more basic light blue (which works out since the spare room has the turquoise color scheme going on).

AND of course amazing gorgeous kitchen photos like these:

I love light colors with white. It's so airy and pretty.

So Project Painting began:

Before- well not really before, gosh that would be hideous! This is after we stripped and sanded it.

During: Tough Work- I would never make it as a professional painter!

Painting in my VS sweats! They are the most comfy sweats ever!
After- Ta da!

Do you like?

And my sister bought my bf this AMAZING art print for Christmas from Ork Posters. It's a map of Los Angeles. So cool. They have lots of different cities too.

Doesn't the orange play well off the blue? See how she has such great taste!

My boyfriend (fiance sounds so korny) grew up in LA so this map print is so fitting for my LA honey. Plus, I love LA too :)

"Pay It Forward" Giveaway!

As you know, a little while back I was lucky enough to win a GIVEAWAY from Gabby, she wrote, here ( I won a Sephora gift certificate which I'll blog about my purchases soon) AND although I didn't win the contest over at Gals in the know, she gifted me a present for being her first "non" friend follower way back when. What a sweetheart! If you haven't checked out her blog...you MUST...it's fabulous!

What she gifted to me: Stila shadow and blush compact

She wrapped it with fashion magazine paper and this pretty stone. I took off the paper before I had my camera out so I just placed the stone around the makeup compact for the photo above. What a neat idea she had. So fun to unwrap!

Isn't the eye shadow pretty? There are two shimmer nude colors and a brown shadow along with a pink blush. I love it! (Btw, don't mind the paint on my hand, I was painting the kitchen earlier that day and couldn't get all the paint off!)

Thank you Gals in the know for giving me this super cute Stila makeup. I absolutely LOVE Stila products so this was such a TREAT!
So.....

Since I've been so LUCKY, I want to PAY IT FORWARD!
The Underfunded Heiress 1st Giveaway: Whoo hoo!

I recently blogged about cute bikini cover ups here. One of my favorites was the Victoria Secret ruffle cover up dress. I bought it recently but because I think it's SO lovely, I'm going to give it away! (But maybe I'll have to buy another one, so whoever wins may have to be matching twins with me).

It's a size small but I think it runs big. It seems like more of a medium to me. I love the ruffle top and it's really soft and light (to see the details of the dress click here).

Don't you love it?! Don't you want it?!

In order to participate in the contest you MUST be in my click (aka a follower).
AND to enter the contest:
1. Comment on this blog post telling me where you would like to wear this cute little number.
2. Additonal entry given by mentioning my contest on your blog (and please let me know just in case I accidentally miss it).
4. Additonal entry given by following my twitter (ufheiress).
3. Additonal entry given for linking my blog (please let me know if you do so).

Rules: Must be18 yrs or old and live in the US or Canada (sorry, it's just too expensive to ship Internationally, unless you know of a way that it's not please let me know).

Easy right?

In 2 weeks (July 6), I'll announce the winner!

Good luck!

You're So Transparent

I absolutely love the look of lucite furniture. It's sleek, contemporary and perfect for small spaces (ie perfect for my apartment)!

photo via alibaba

Since I moved into my fiance's place about 2 years ago, I've been adding my feminine touch (bye bye bachelor pad!) and so far I've transformed the guest room and kitchen. I've also added splashes of femininity throughout the living room as well although it's still a work in progress :)

It's so much prettier now!

Some gorgeous lucite furniture that I would LOVE to add to the living room:

Such a stylish coffee table, don't you think? I love how there's room for magazines and books but it still looks neat and organized.

A fun and funky lucite cocktail table.

I love the legs on this table. So modern.

I'm not sure how comfortable a lucite chair is but just like shoes, style first, comfort second!

It's Not Just Words

By Melanie

I am a great admirer of art. I love how art stirs up emotion, which is an amazing feeling. Especially if it makes you feel good. One style of art that I adore is Word art. Below are a few pieces that I bought and placed around the apartment.

Perfect for stressful times.

Great words to live by.

This is actually a greeting card by Jennifer Ramos at MadebyGirl . Last year I bought a LOVE print seen here in a blog post. So to keep the LOVE theme going, I recently bought a white & gold card and pink card. I thought they were so cute I just had to frame them.
They are hanging in the entryway right when you walk in the front door. I think it offers a great ambiance.
Her website and blog are the best!

I'm actually craving for this one for the kitchen.

Isn't it cute?

I love word art. Don't you?

Bursts of Color

By Melanie

I love walking into a bright bold room where the colors just pop! It's like the room is yelling "Hello! Let me brighten your day!"

But with bright bold colors I think there is a fine line between it working right and being over powering. You need to have the right amount of bold for it to look good.

Bold done right:

I think this green works well because it is paired with the white. This is such a cool bedroom. I need to revamp our room. I think Brian would be happy with this type of decor. Great style and not girlie. We already have the white duvet cover so we just need the headboard and the green walls.

Orange floors? Some how it really works well. Notice how it's paired with the white. I like how the bookcase background is orange too. Nice flow.

This is a fun kitchen/dining area. I love that orange!

Bright pink that is not too girly.

Doesn't the bright blue wall play off the pink really well?

Green door and a green doggie scarf! How cute!

Happy Monday!
