Day at MoMA

By Melanie

When I was in New York a few weeks back, I spent an afternoon at the MoMa, Museum of Modern Art. I love going to art museums especially contemporary ones that have a lot of unique exhibits. I've been wanting to visit MoMa for awhile so this was so exciting!

The day I went they had several very interesting exhibits.
Some of my favorites:

Love the Betsy Johnson collage.

The Blondie photos (above and below) are from the music exhibit. She sure had great style! These photos look like they could be from 2009.

source: photos taken by me at the MoMa. Please visit the website to see who the artists are.
They also had a home decor exhibit which I'll post on Wednesday!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and happy Monday!

Rockin' couple

My Melanie

Wow, I can't believe how fast Thanksgiving Day goes by. We are officially into the holiday season. Time to put up the Christmas tree and white twinkle lights in our place. Yay! We usually just put up a little faux tree because our place is small but it still looks really cute. Can't wait to show it to you.

When I saw this video post on Green Wedding Shoes blog it totally made me want to elope (don't worry Mom we won't:))

This couple is sooo cool and creative. They eloped to Vegas and on the way made this video with a film crew (the Sibs) and then shortly after they debuted it at their 30 and 40th birthday party as a surprise to all their guests. How cool are they!

The invitation above is for the birthday party. Love the design and those sparkly shoes!

The video's a bit long but it's like watching a real movie so it's definitely worth the 5 minutes.

Even if you're not into weddings you will love this video. Aesthetically pleasing and great tunes!

Happy Black Friday! If you're shopping (not me I would rather sleep in) I hope you find amazing deals!

A Collection of Inspiration

By Melanie

I found the cutest magazine holder on Etsy the other day by paperdollwoodshop.

I like how the sides are open showing the colorful magazines.

Etsy has the most unique and creative products! I think this will go on my Christmas list!

Lookbook: Sitting Pretty

by heather
Hey you. How was your weekend? I had a lovely time enjoying the sunshine here in Santa Monica. On Sunday my sleepyhead raced to Main Street to catch the tail end of the Farmer's Market. I was hoping to buy some juicy pluots and a chocolate almond croissant, but to my dismay they were either sold out or not available. So I diverted my food cravings by indulging in some shopping. I bought this gorgeous rayon floral dress for $32.99!

I love the colors in this dress. They make it easy to transition it through all the seasons here in Cali (or lack thereof :)).

The dress had shoulder straps that tie, but I wanted a more sophisticated look so I cut them off.

Dress by Audrey 3+1 from Bumble Bee boutique (inexpensive trendy clothes); Belt from another random boutique on main street; Jacket by Theory; Booties by BCBG; Earring by Heirra; Bracelets by Heirra; Tights from the 99 cent store.

Twinkle Twinkle

By Melanie

One of my favorite parts about the holidays is the decorations. I absolutely love twinkle lights and glittery Christmas trees. This weekend I saw both! Heather and I went to dinner on Saturday night at Chaya in Venice and to the Wine Bar in Santa Monica. In the center where the Wine Bar is located there were two christmas trees made of shopping carts.

How creative is that? It actually looked really pretty.

I love the green and blue.

Another one with white lights.
Main Street in Santa Monica is lined with twinkle lights. It's looks so quaint and cute.

The photo doesn't do it justice. My camera has been acting up and not taking the clearest photos. Sorry!

We had a nice Saturday night.

Do you have any favorite parts of the holidays that you enjoy?

I think this weekend I'm going to download some new tunes to my ipod. I'm getting back into my workout routine and running so I've got to have some good music to keep me pumped!

Any favorites?

Lucky Girl

By Melanie

I've had some great luck lately and won a few giveaways! My latest win is from Leticia at Gals in the Know blog (which is super cool)!
A healthy Chinese cook book called Fresh Chinese by Wynnie Chan. Yum! There are so any delicious recipes in here. I'm excited to try them (and I know by bf is excited for me to cook)!
In addition to the cook book that I won on her blog, I also I won a canvas where they place a photo or drawing on it at Online Poster Printing. Pretty cool!

This is one of my drawings. I'm actually in the production of creating a UH greeting card line. It should be out in the next month. I love to draw and I have a collection of female characters, the underfunded heiress girls :) and thought it would be fun to create into a greeting card line. So I finally decided to do it! I can't wait until it's finished and ready to debut!
Thank you for the prizes Leticia at Gals in the Know!

What Sundays Were Made For

By Melanie

I think Sundays are my favorite day. Saturdays I try to get a lot done. Run my errands, clean, organize, work on design homework etc but when Sunday arrives I love to sleep in, enjoy a good cup of joe, read and check out some of my favorite blogs.

Souvenir from my Manhattan weekend vacay. I love frothy coffee. I heat up and whisk the soy milk so it has a frothy top.

This weekend, I added a handful of fashion blogs to my blogger reader thanks to my sister's blog list. I love her taste and of course I found lots of good ones (her list is in her profile under Our Story).

And I wrote a blog post. Sunday afternoons I try to get out into the day and enjoy it! Today was a beautiful day here in So Cal. I captured this beautiful sunset at the end of the day.

So pretty. I should really have a mug that says I heart California.

How do you like to spend your Sundays?

I heart you

By Melanie

This weekend Brian and I are celebrating our anniversary! Although technically the true date was this past Monday but we didn't get a chance to celebrate out. He was sweet though and made a delicious dinner that night and I bought him some cupcakes from SusieCakes.

Not sure which restaurant we are going to. Hopefully a romantic one with twinkle lights.

If you live in coastal OC or LA, any suggestions?

Blogger Pick 3

by Heather
Blogger stalk with me. Here's a pic I took of myself with my Mac camera while enjoying coffee, my yard, and blogger fashion looks.

via Mr. Newton. If they remade the TV series Fame, I think she would be on it. This look is so adorable.

Constance-Victoria. Her photos are always so artistic and she has great style.

4th And Bleeker. Alex's fashion sense is fun, but it's her witty writing that keeps me coming back. I wish she would post more often!

I think I was going for a monochromatic tone with these picks.

Stalking any new blogs lately?

I Heart New York (part 2 of mini vacay)

By Melanie

As you know the reason we went to NYC was because my friend ran the marathon. I wish I could say that I was at the booth in the photo above to pick up my number and t-shirt but I haven't reached that impressive ability yet (the longest race I've run is a 5 mile). But I soooo want to!

The marathon was so international. I've never seen a race so full of runners from around the world. Just being there to watch it was such a great experience. It was so inspiring and full of energy and emotion. We were able to get close up near the finish line and see the runner pass. Some people looked like they could keep going for miles, some were in tears and some barely making it. My friend that ran is such an inspiration. Not only is it such an achievement to run a marathon but she just had a baby about 7 months ago! This gal is amazing and looks great. I have a photo of her running but it's blury :(

Later Sunday evening we went to dinner and out for drinks and dancing. New Yorkers are so stylish. I noticed when we were in Soho the day before how every person looked so fabulous and hip. So naturally, we California girls, had to "bring it" too ;)

My friend looked so gorgeous and stylish. I just loved her outfit. I made her take photos!

Yellow skirt- Forever 21
White shirt - Express

She had a big pretty necklace on which totally made the outfit (I think forever 21). Chocolate tights and platform heels. She looked like a model!

Dinner at Pipa Restaurant. This was a spanish tapas restaurant that had a live band that played salsa music.

Cheers with Sangria!

Good friends!

Good times!

The food was so delicious but what topped it was the decor! The decor here was my absolute favorite. The ceiling was covered with glimmering chandeliers. It looked so pretty.

I so wish the OC would catch on and introduce some cool restaurants like this!

This wall was adorned with seashells. Pretty cool!

Next stop was Hotel Gansevoort.

I love the design of the type for the signage.
Here I am on the patio taking in the view (H&M dress).

Last stop of the night was dancing (I think it was called Tangiere, but I could be wrong). Sorry no photos-too silly!

On Monday, the girls left in the morning. My flight wasn't until late evening so I explored the city on my own.
Luckily by now I figured out how to get around (well almost). I walked up 5th avenue which was pretty cool. Major shopping and cool buildings.

The store windows had some exquisite window dressings. I took a lot more photos but they didn't come out. This is the only one but it was my favorite anyway.

I squilled with delight when I saw the huge beautiful library. Not only because I'm an avid reader but I think this is the library where Carrie from SATC almost married Big at.
No photos from inside because it was closed for an event (could SATC #2 be taping)?

I sat on the steps and people watched for awhile. I think New York is the best city for this.

I walked all the way up to Central Park and chilled on a bench. I've always wanted to hang at Central park on a picnic blanket relaxing under the sun. Maybe spring/summer next year?

This is my favorite photo. I think I will frame it. Isn't it amazing!
After the park I spent the rest of the afternoon at MoMA- Museum of Modern Art. This museum had the coolest exhibits. Stay tuned for some fun and fabulous art!
