Lookbook: Sofalite

by Heather

Sorry for the lack of posting lately, I've just been so busy jet-setting sofa lounging. It's tough being an [underfunded] heiress. ;)

I'm in Miami B*!

By Melanie

As you know, Heather and I recently traveled to South Beach Florida for our cousin's wedding. It was gorgeous and so sweet to see her get married. She got married at one of the most beautiful places, The Spanish Monastery (so fitting that it's from Spain, they have such amazing architecture).

Isn't it so beautiful?

Me, my brother and Heather.

The reception followed at the Botanical Gardens. Beautiful again. Not only did we get to enjoy a oh so fabulous wedding but it was fun to hang out with family and see South Beach. I was there once before but that was many years ago.

The rest of our time there we acted like tourists!

The water there is so much prettier than California (but still partial to Cali). I love the aqua blue!

So picturesque!

The boardwalk.

This day was the only somewhat warm and sunny day. The rest of the trip was chilly (low 60's) for Florida weather.

Other days spent as a tourist:

More beach time :)

I love the sky in this photo!

Grassy area next to Ocean Drive.

Me on Ocean Drive. It was so fun to walk around. I loved how there were so many hotels, restaurants and bars lined up in a row. Although, I thought it was a little strange that the hostess would stand on the sidewalk and bug you to come eat and drink at their restaurant. It got to be quite annoying but other than that there seemed to be a lot of yummy and fun places.
Breakfast at The Front Porch Cafe. Great people watching!
Versace's house.

Our hotel. It was just okay. But perfect location (right on Ocean Drive across from the beach). And most of our family stayed here so we all were able to hang out a lot.
For our last day there, we switched hotels and stayed a night at the Mondrian (I'll blog about it next week). This place was so stylish!

Dinner on Ocean Drive. We also had dinner and drinks in an area called Espanola Way. Cute little area.
I would defiantly love to come back here BUT only when it's sunny and 80 degrees. I want to lay out at the beach and pool in my bikini rather than my sweater!

Have a great Wednesday! Countdown to NYE! Any fun plans yet?

Holiday Wrap Up

By Melanie

Holidays are the best. I usually go to Ohio for Christmas to see my family but this year since my cousin was getting married a week before, all my family celebrated a little early in Florida (South Beach photos soon to come). Then the actual day of Christmas I was back in Cali celebrating with my fiance's family.

Our little tree. It's a faux and small but so cute! If you look closely, there are silver and white butterflies through out.

After opening a few gifts at our place, we were off to Brian's Mom's house who lives in South Orange County. We took the scenic route on PCH.

I love the dolphins with santa hats!

On the way to Laguna. No snow but so pretty!

Main Beach in Laguna Beach. His Mom lives about 15 minutes up through the canyon. Beautiful views!

Christmas was nice. Now it's time to plan for New Years Eve! Ooh, time for resolutions! I hope this year's resolutions aren't the same as last year!

How was the holidays for you?

Wall Art Clusters - A Do or a Don't?

By Melanie

I've been going back and forth with deciding if I wanted to add a wall art cluster in the spare bedroom. I love the way they look but a little apprehensive to try it in fear it would look too busy and overwhelming. I already have a lot of art throughout the room so I'm not sure if it would work.

My inspiration:

This space is so bright and clean. I think that's why the art cluster works so well.

Instead of a full art cluster, I decided to add a row of the more artsy photos from my engagement session to the this single artwork I had hanging in the spare room.

Not technically a cluster but I like it. What do you think?

Holiday Sparkle

By Melanie

source: Glamour Magazine

As the holidays approach, so do parties! Along with picking out a fabulous dress for the season, it's a perfect time to glam up the face!

I love shimmer and this is the perfect time to add a little extra sparkle. One of my favorites looks is shimmery eyeshadow. Bobbi Brown has some gorgeous shadows.

I like to pair shadow with a glistening lip gloss and for the holidays I really love dressing them up with shimmer. Although, in all honesty, I like to wear gloss every day (usually different shades of pink). I feel bare without it.

Chanel has a very pretty shimmer collection. It's a little pricey (more than my Mac that I love) but it's totally worth it. It lasts a pretty long time too.

Pin Up and Seashell are my favorites.

The holidays are a perfect time to look pretty and feel pretty. Just remember that the holiday party is not the time to experiment. Don't go overboard. You don't want shimmer overload. So if your not that great at applying makeup or don't typically add so much shimmer, do a trial run before you head out to the party. You don't want to show up looking like it's Halloween!

What's your favorite holiday makeup?

Polka Dot Bikini

Heather and I are off to South Beach this morning for our cousin's wedding. I can't wait! It should be a great time.

I hope to get some beach and pool time!

I'm sure her wedding is going to be so beautiful! Can't wait to celebrate.

Weekly Looky Lou:

  • Natalie Off Duty - I'm loving this sweater.
  • It's Unbeweavable - A fun post on who would play you in a movie. Hmmm...I'm not sure who would play me. I always get told that I look like Sylvester Stallone's wife. But I don't think she's really an actress and does anyone really know who she is? Angelina Jolie would definitely play my sis!
  • Apartment 34 - cutest doggie ever!

Have a great Friday!

Lookbook: Acid Trip

by Heather
At first I said unh-hu, I'm not succumbing to the acid-wash/stone-wash 80's revival trend. Because, I actually wore it back in the day (albeit, I was in grade school). But the more I saw it, the more I wanted it. So I opted for a black wash, subdued version.

My taste in fashion has become more refined and true to myself as I've aged. In my late teens and early 20's I coveted EVERY fashion trend, but now I'm much more selective. I tend to buy staples that I know I'll wear for years to come. Accessories are my fashion-forward ammunition.

Are you gals into the '80s and '90s trends, if you remember when it was first on the scene?

Acid wash leggings by American Apparel; faux-leather jacket by Zara; silk tank by Alternative Apparel; booties by BCBG; Necklace by PrettyFine Jewelry; moonstone ring by PrettyFine Jewelry; vintage WMMS (Cleveland rock station) pin; zebra shades from Anthropologie; Bag by Tosca Blu.

So Very Carrie

By Melanie

source: Brunch at Saks blog

I'm so excited about the book The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell. Carrie before SATC! Oooh, good stories I'm sure! I think this will be such a fun read AND I love the cover! It will look so cute on my coffee table!

I love typography and pink so when I saw the design cover I was instantly drawn to it. I hope the inside delivers!

I must put it on my Christmas list right now!

Lookbook: Pullover! Pullover!

by Heather
No, it's a cardigan but thanks for noticing.

A little movie quoting. Who knows what movie?!

Belt by Streets Ahead; gold earrings by Prettyfine Jewelry; scarf by Calvin Klein; cardigan by Samsonite (from Loehmann's several years ago. I didn't know they made clothes either.); jeans by Citizen of Humanity (old, but revamped with a DIY over-dyed blue); over-the-knee boots by Miss Me.

I had trouble sleeping last night, got my second wind around 10pm as usual, so I stayed up past 3am enthralled with Penelope Trunk's blog: Brazen Careerist. Melanie got me hooked. She gives modern advice with a unique perspective.
